Gatang Kalabasa & Sitaw


Ginataang Sitaw at Kalabasa (string beans and squash in coconut milk)One of the simple yet delicious, and so nutritious vegetable recipe. To make the recipe more delicious you can add either pork or shrimp. But we bicolanos sometimes use tinapa (smoked fish) and bagoong a replacement for salt and discard the pork for a healthier way. Using crab also in this recipe is stunning but the dish will focused on or will be called Ginataang Alimasag but the same way as they cooked of it.

INGREDIENTS:
1 small squash peeled and cut in cube-like
1 bundle of sitaw or string beans cut soak in water
1/4 kilo kilo pork diced (optional)
3 cloves garlic chopped
1 small onion chopped
1 can coconut milk

Method:

Heat cooking oil in a wok.
Fry pork meat until brown.
In the same pan, saute onion and garlic until fragrant.
Stir together with the pork for a few minutes.
Pour in coconut milk and bring to a boil. (optional:  add tinapa and bagoong)
Place in the squash first and wait until half-cooked and follow string beans.
Cover and simmer over low heat until vegetables are tender.
Serve with steamed rice! Enjoy!
