The goal of Simpleng Luto is to share the simple recipe that is prepared and cooked in the simplest way. A simple cooking for a simplest Filipino taste, lutong-pinoy lasang-pinoy. Simpleng Luto is more on Lutong Bahay recipes or cooked mostly by simple Filipino family on day-to-day living.

Ginataang Sitaw at Kalabasa with Pork

There are lots of recipe like this and delivers or make procedure differently. I don't say it taste no good to others but I may say all is taste delicious. But this is how I cook this Simpleng Luto recipe.

1-2 bundle strings beans (sitaw), cut into 2 1/2 inch length
1/4 sliced kalabasa (squash), cubed
3-4 cups coconut milk (2 raw coconut prefered)
1 onion, sliced
1 siling haba
2 tablespoons bagoong alamang (shrimp paste)
3 cloves garlic, crushed
Salt and pepper to taste
3 tablespoons cooking oil

Cooking Procedure
  • Put-in the bagoong alamang and the half of the garlic and half of the onion in the coconut milk and stir thoroughly or mix well (we need the other half of the garlic ang onion for saute)
  • Boil sliced pork until it become soft add oil and make it look brownish. Set aside.
  • Saute the garlic and onion in the oil where pork is cooked until the onion becomes soft.
  • Pour-in the coconut milk together with the ingredients and pork. Stir and never stop until it boil.
  • Add the kalabasa. Cook for 8 to 12 minutes or until tender.
  • Add the string beans (sitaw). Cook for 2 to 3 minutes.
  • Add salt and pepper to taste.
  • Serve and enjoy!


Tunaflakes (Corned Tuna plus skyflakes)

The is no such recipe as simple as this. I think this is good enough for a snack or for a diet purposes with a small caned tuna and a flakes. For sure even a kid can prepare something like this. A one Simpleng Luto recipe.

1 small caned tuna
1 clove crushed garlic
1 small onion, sliced
1 teaspoon cooking oil
black pepper (optional)

Simple Steps:
1. Heat the cooking oil in a pan
2. Saute the garlic and onion but don't over cooked cause it will taste no good
3. Put-in corned tuna and cook for 2-3 minutes
4. Transfer to a serving bowl and enjoy eating together with a pack of skyflakes.
